Llandaff Bishop's Palace can be found in what is now part of modern Cardiff City. Located near the cathedral, the twin towered gatehouse is the most impressive feature, albeit there are sections of wall that are still in good condition.
~ History ~
1266 ~ William de Braose becomes Bishop of Llandaff.
The same mason who works on Caerphilly castle is set the task to work on the palace gatehouse also.
1402 ~ The palace is attacked and damaged by Owain Glyndŵr in the Welsh rebellion, and is subsequently abandoned by the bishop, who moves to live at Mathern Palace in Monmouthshire.
1640's ~ Much of the palace is destroyed during the English Civil War.
1850 ~ The bishops finally return to live near their cathedral.
