For me the whole castle finding experience started by accident whilst driving across the Brecon Beacons in South Wales with my dad in the late 90's and out of the mists Carreg Cennan Castle came into view, perched impressively upon its 300 feet crag. Since then my travels have taken us to over 400 castles and fortifications across the length and breadth of Britain, most of which are shared in this website.

The extensive research associated with these castles has been taken from many historical sources over several years to help bring these often forgotten ruins back to life, so as you can literally reach out and touch their history from their walls and surrounding landscape.

Castle finding will take you to some of the most amazing and breathtaking scenery you will find anywhere in the country and provide you with a real sense of adventure as you explore the more obscure, often forgotten about castles, which this website is dedicated to.

All the photo's contained in our website are those we have taken ourselves from our many adventures around some of the most beautiful parts of the country. We hope some of these inspire your own adventures.

Special thanks to Mike Salter and his invaluable castle guide books.

A castle was a fortress, but also a home. I love to explore and recreate a picture in my mind of life in a castle before it was abandoned; imagining occupants from centuries ago living there, a girl sitting in the window gazing out at the surrounding countryside,  the hustle and bustle of the household enfolding within the castle walls.

Discovering some of the hidden castles has taken us to some amazing places, its not always the castle that makes a location interesting, its the stunning scenery or the silhouette against a glorious sunset. There's satisfaction in eventually finding the next castle that started as a small red 'castle' dot on the map, after trying to read the bends in the road or the curve of a loch.
