Auchness Castle, Dumfries and Galloway
South of Ardwell
Auchness Castle is a very altered and extended small 16th-century tower house of three storeys that is now a lovely farm house.
The name derives from Gaelic and Norse "the field at the point".
The castle is strictly private but can be viewed from the main road.
